What’s the Difference Between CIPM, CIPP/US, and CIPP/E?

Each certification serves a different purpose:

  • Certified Information Privacy Manager (CIPM): This certification helps you develop leadership skills for managing and leading an organization’s privacy program.
  • Certified Information Privacy Professional/United States (CIPP/US): Focuses on U.S. data protection laws and regulations.
  • Certified Information Privacy Professional/Europe (CIPP/E): Similar to CIPP/US, but centered around European data protection laws.

Holding these certifications equips you for the role of Data Protection Officer (DPO).

How Long Should I Prepare for the Exam?

The International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP) recommends around 30 hours of exam preparation. However, to be fully confident, we suggest dedicating between 40 to 50 hours. Your ideal study time will depend on factors like your work experience, study habits, and personal schedule.

How Many Questions Are on the Exam?

The exam consists of 90 multiple-choice questions, with 75 scored. For each question, there is one correct answer and three plausible but incorrect options. There are also scenario-based questions that can be particularly challenging due to the detailed information provided.

How Much Time Do I Have for the Exam?

You’ll have 2.5 hours to complete the exam, so time management is crucial.
